From ccdevnet

Welcome to the wiki for ccdevnet.org, the Creatures Community Development Network. ccdevnet has multiple projects running, of which the most known and worked on are Lifandi, a totally new and Free creatures-inspired game, and openc2e, an open-source Creatures engine clone which can emulate the original Creatures games, but also offers possibilities to create new similar games, of which Lifandi is one.

The 'mainstream' Creatures Wiki is the largest concentration of information about the Creatures series by Creature Labs/Gameware, and if you are unfamiliar with the games, it couldn't hurt to check it out.

Dive into the heap of information on the wiki by clicking 'Category View' on your right, or look below for the main sections of the wiki.

Feel free to drop by irc.freenode.net/#ccdevnet to chat.

Lifandi

A lot of it is about Lifandi. Lifandi is a new community-built Creatures game, with the big difference that it is Free - that is, all source code is freely available, and anybody may edit and distribute anything from the project.

Lifandi is being made from scratch. It will use openc2e, which will also support Creatures games. A new world, creatures and agents are being created by individuals and groups. Lifandi is still mostly in the planning stages, but can use help.

This wiki is a meeting point for coordinating ideas and strategy for Lifandi. Developers also meet on Sine and irc.freenode.net/#ccdevnet.

There is already a free, but copyright encumbered Creatures clone called Edynn, which we're stripping for useful/unencumbered parts.

The project is still alive as of July 2008.

Suggestions

  • Since openc2e will support Creatures games, it is safe to use Docking Station as a testbed for Lifandi designs. A small Lifandi-geared test world for Docking Station would help attract contributors.
    • fuzzie disagrees with this, unless someone actually has contributors in mind - openc2e works fine enough for anything anyone's going to produce for Lifandi at the moment, all you're going to do by using DS is tempt people to ignore Lifandi design in favour of making things work in the very different situation of DS - and exclude all the people who can't easily run DS.

ccdevnet sites

  • Asset bin - a place to drop any binary assets for Lifandi/etc. The username is "siners" and the password is Ami's favourite saying, but all lowercase and with no spaces.
  • openc2e subversion browser - delicious source code; fuzzie ought to get around to documenting all the discoveries eventually, but for now you can peer at C++
